HOW WE GET OUR NEW TESTAMENT.
There's a lot of misconceptions spread by Bible Critics, especially Muslims on How will get our New Testament. Almost everyone of them holds to a fallacy that the New Testament was gathered and formed during the council of Hippo and Carthage. This article gives analysis on how we get our New Testament.
- WHY DID IT TAKE 15 YEARS AFTER THE DEATH OF JESUS, BEFORE THE NEW TESTAMENT ARE BEING DOCUMENTED?
After the Death and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the disciples felt no obligation to place anything into documents. As they were witness to the teachings, miracles, Death and Resurrection of Christ. They preach Christ as a witness and their preachings only covered where Jesus himself is widely known, there was no need to appeal to sacred documents for verification. As time moves on, the witnesses were dying and the Gospel was being spread abroad, which gave rise to the need of written document, else confusion is going to rise, as some anti-Christ would try to manipulate the True Gospel, as seen in later writings e.g. Gnostic documents. And there was a growing demand for writing documents on the Life of CHRIST, His Teachings, Miracles, Death and Resurrection. I.e. The Gospel. And the demand was being met from various sources, to the Jews, and to the Gentiles.(Luke 1:1) In conclusion, the scriptures were written in the first Thirty years after the Resurrection of Christ, except for the book of Revelation written around 90AD.
- BIBLE WRITTEN BY UNKNOWN MEN.
How true is that? Is Bible actually written by unknown men? Eight to Nine men were involved. We have - Peter, Matthew, John and Paul, who were Apostles. Some people argued Paul wasn't a witness, they spoke as if Paul was born after Jesus Resurrection. Paul was a witness, in fact, you could see from the book of Acts how he persecuted the Christians, which occurred not long after Jesus Death and Resurrection. He would be one of those that wanted Jesus to be crucified, He was a Pharisee that studied under Gamaliel, who was one of the best Pharisees out 3-4 during the lifetime of Jesus. The other three were Jesus's Disciples, they dined and wined with him. We have two half-brother of Jesus - James and Jude-, and a Gentile - Luke. The other is Mark, who was Peter's companion and an assistant to Paul at various times.
- WHAT ABOUT THE BOOK OF HEBREW?
Though most scholars argued The book of Hebrews was probably written by someone other than Paul, which is against the early father's decision on it. According to the early fathers, it's written by Paul.
The truth is, I studied the text and it completely differs from Paul's way of writing in respect of other Paul's writings. The Differences doesn't prove the early father wrong. Paul's other writings, were basically Gentiles oriented, sometimes He used Greek ideology to buttress his point. The Book of the Hebrew basically has the Jews in mind. It's normal to see a difference.
- IS THEIR WRITINGS SACRED?
Some Critics used Quran 2:79, which says
"Therefore woe is being onto those who write the Scripture with their hands and then say, "This is from Allah," that they may purchase a small gain therewith. Woe unto them for that their hands have written, and woe unto them for that they earn thereby."
Whether the verse is referring to New testament or not, it's wrong to say that blatant lie against the innocent writers of the New Testament. They wrote the entire documents without expecting any reward or whatsoever, the documents were freely shared among the present Churches.
But what did the New testament say about itself?
Did the writers think they are just putting down mere uninspired historical documents?
The following analysis shows that the writers wrote all the new Testament writings as sacred documents, that is meant for the Church of God, its sacredness is not imposed later by the Church.
Paul cited Luke's documents along side with Deuteronomy, which indicates the two books were sacred, as He regarded both as scriptures. And the book of Luke was in existence for a good five years before the two books of Timothy.
(1 Timothy 5:18. Deuteronomy 25:4 and Luke 10:7)
Peter, also refer to the Pauline epistles as sacred writings.
(2Peter 3:15-16)
The New testament writings were considered sacred during the lifetime of the writers, not later imposition as claimed by the critics.
According to 1 Corinthians 2:13 and 1Thessalonians 4:15, The writer made it known the writings were from God, and it's authoritative for the Church.
